Kate is a highly experienced litigator.
She is a leader in reputation management including libel and privacy.*
Over the last decade she has acted for some of the best known names in international business and politics, including Sir James Goldsmith, Boris Berezovsky and David and Simon Reuben, as well as for leading figures in entertainment and sports, such as Ken Bates and Kevin Keegan.
Recent highlights in her career include defending Californian photographer, Pete Brandt, in a claim brought by an A-list Hollywood celebrity.
She is a founding partner of Gallant Macmillan, a niche litigation practice with exceptional expertise in reputation management, which she set up in 2006 with Simon Gallant, former partner of Mishcons. Prior to this, she was a senior litigation lawyer at top libel firm, Carter Ruck, where she worked for almost a decade.
Kate’s practice covers all aspects of reputation management, including defamation, confidence, privacy and harassment law. She has a proven track record of achieving quick settlements of matters without having to issue proceedings and at pursuing substantial litigation to success at trial.
Kate’s high profile clients have also asked her to handle a wide range of non media claims for them, including commercial disputes, employment disputes and professional negligence, extradition, assault and blackmail claims.
As a strong advocate, Kate achieved the Solicitor Advocacy qualification in 2005.
Prior to embarking on a legal career, Kate was an award winning journalist and magazine editor at Haymarket Magazines. This background means that she is exceptionally well placed to offer advice on how to manage your reputation effectively.
She has written for and provided expert comment on libel and privacy for a wide range of international media, including the BBC and the Times.
Kate is a member of the Solicitors’ Association of Higher Court Advocates, the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and the American Bar Association.
