Simple economics dictates that there can be no profit without risk. This applies
as much as to any other business. But certain publication risks are so extreme that
no media company would ever wish to take them on. Substantial damages can result
from a serious libel or copyright infringement; hefty fines or even imprisonment
can follow from a contempt of court.
